Considering trading in your duffle bag or hard suitcase for a travel backpack?
5. Traveling with a backpack prevents you from overpacking. How many times have you packed for a trip and returned home with half a suitcase of still clean laundry? Packing multi-use articles of clothing and knowing you don’t have room to over pack, helps keep your luggage a realistic weight.
The longest trip that I have taken with my backpack on is 10 day trip around Andalusia, Spain but I am currently planning a 15 day trip to the Mediterranean with full intentions of using my backpack!
4. You are more mobile with a backpack. The ability to use both hands for enjoying a snack or taking photographs as you walk and take in the scenery is life changing. It is also easier walk up and down stairs while wearing a backpack and it is easier to walk on uneven pavement or cobblestone.
3. You have more freedom to store your luggage in lockers at various transportation stations or leave it at the front desk of a hotel. A backpack also comes in handy if you are staying in a shared dorm room in a hostel!
Backpacks are also easier to store when not traveling. Travel backpacks can often times be folded flat in order to be easily stored in any environment including a tiny one bedroom city apartment where a large had suitcase with wheels would take up more room.
2. Backpacks are more versatile than a roller suitcase. Your travel backpack can be used on a variety of trips across the world to include hiking through the jungle or a week at the beach.
… and the main reason for traveling with a backpack is:
Their convenience factor. Because most backpacks can be carried on to trains, planes and buses, it makes it very easy to travel especially if you are constantly changing modes of transportation. I frequently fly in to a city and then hop right on the train to get to my destination. When traveling with my backpack, I don’t have to worry about waiting for my luggage or it getting lost along the way.
I love traveling with my Osprey Farpoint 55 instead of a traditional roller suitcase. It has been used for weekend trips, week long trips, and even 10 day adventures. I am currently planning a 15 day trip to Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina and I plan to use it for that as well!

Oooo the times of a luggage are done. Hello backpacks. Definitely better.
Sarah says
Definitely better!! Will still use a carry on suitcase occasionally but totally agree that the days of full luggage sets are done.

I love this! I’ve always travelled with a backpack too because it’s so much easier than having to wheel a suitcase over rough surfaces or up stairs.
It does tend to get heavier as I go though, because I keep buying things!

Thank you!! I totally agree, usually by the end of my trips, it’s packed full!
